The mark reads, Bausch & Lomb Optical Co, Made in Germany, and three asterix. Can't find any information at all. It looks absolutely ANCIENT, very primitive, chisel blade, 7/8. I have reason to believe it may date to the 1800s. What do you guys think, anyone have any information?
    Thanks

Maybe it's the camera angle but it looks like it's ground on only one side. If that's true then it's probably not a facial razor but one for making slides for viewing under a microscope.

Looks like a razor used for a microtome(?) in a lab. Seen plenty of those style in the pathology depts up on campus where I work.

Yup, that's a microtome. Made for sectioning things, not shaving. Bausch and Lomb is a science/optics company based here in Rochester.

That is a microtome used for cutting tissue slices before more modern counterparts were developed. B&L was/is a supplier to medical companies so they had some of those made for their medical catalog. Not really appropriate for straight razor shaving though it can be adapted if you want to go through a lot of hassle.

Its not the angle, it is ground on only one side. Wow how strange, for making slides? Is that a guess, or do you know that that kind of tool exists?

Wow, how strange! Do you think the bone scales mean it was made in a time before synthetics? It looks absolutely archaic

Yeah, many outfits made them. I have a Puma that I actually honed and shave with once in awhile. Here is a thread on that experience.
