Default Joseph Rodgers and a Wade and Butcher

So here are the candidates for my first restoration project. A little cleaning, new scales and a professional honing and hopefully they will be shave worthy.

Very nice. I think that Rodgers and WB always make some really unique blades. So many different styles.

    Hello, str8rzr:

I can really see the potential in those two razors in new clothing. By all means, don't delay the project.

    Regards,

    Obie

Depending on what the second razor's scales are made of and their condition; I would probably leave the scales and the pins original.
    Beautiful razors, thanks for sharing.

Two great looking blades you have there. I look forward to seeing the finished products. Any ideas on the scale materials yet?

Sorry to all for the slow reply. As far as progress, I had to delay starting on these as other pressing thing came up.

@Hirlau: the scales on the wade and butcher seem OK, maybe in need of some sanding and polishing. I'm hoping to save these for another restoration. The pins might be a little questionable, though. While they are still snug, you need to be careful closing the razor or you might hit the edge of the blade on the scales. I can't tell if there is an issue with the pins/scale shape or if the scales are just flexing every so slightly....

@Str8Razor: Right now I'm considering ancient Kauri wood, adjustable pins and tung oil finish.

Kauri wood would be awesome! I will have a kauri scaled blade some day. Maybe I could write the ancientwoods website and ask if they have a tiny piece I could use for a wedge on my ivory rescaled John Barber, hmmmmmm..........

Man, those are sweet blades. As a purist(when possible), I wonder about an epoxy fix for the Rodgers? The Butcher scales look great from what I can see. They are not making any more originals, so something to consider! Whatever you do, they look like excellent candidates!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
    I rest my case.

IME where the blade is hitting the scales on one side, tapping the pin lightly, opposite the side that hits, can sometimes realign the pin/blade to where it will center .... or at least not hit. YMMV.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I looked a bit more closely at the scales and there is either a natural weakness or a partial splintering at the flex point. If the razor were for me, I'd disassemble and attempt to repair it...

I like the epoxy idea from Sharptonn, but these are gifts and I feel a new set of scales will be greatly appreciated and spur a bit of excitement about wet shaving for those receiving.

I just picked up the scale materials and hopefully enough sandpaper. If all is right in the universe, I think that this weekend I will have some spare time to start on the blades.
