The monster is mine!
This 9/8 Joseph Rodgers 'Dutch Rattler' is mine now. And it has become my favorite razor already. The bevel is so narrow it is all but invisible. Here is the twist: it was restored a long time ago by someone who knew what he was doing: me.
This razor took a long and convoluted road to end up in my rotation box.
Many years ago I bid on a busted 9/8 Joseph Rodgers wedge on ebay. I missed the auction by a couple of $. This was the time when such items could still be had for less than 50$. Sometime later I was negotiating with a senior member (I was still a newbie) over a restored JR fat wedge, which he eventually decided to keep. I was cool with it. After all, we were still negotiating.
Long time after that he sold the wedge, and I only found out it was for sale when it was already spoken for. I was a little disappointed but still, it was fair game. The seller however felt a bit guilty and mailed me another JR wedge in need of restoration. He told me I could fix it up and he'd pay what it would cost. And I could keep it as long as I liked for shaving with it.
So I restored it, shaved with it and sent it back. I told the owner it was a perfect shaver, which I was sorry to see go.
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, when the owner contacted me and told me that he was downsizing his collection and wanted to sell -among others- this one. And he asked if I wanted to have it for what he paid me. I didn't have to think twice about that.
After an excited wait, I finally received it and it is now my favorite shaver.
My original restoration thread is here:

Congrats Bruno, watch your nose with that one.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Nice razor, nice story. I think I know who the other party is - he told me at one point about a razor you did for him and that it's excellent shaver. I love Rodgers razors and I'm not surprised at all. Enjoy it in good health!
