Default My new Dovo Astrale (Leo)

My Dovo Astrale came in the mail today from Royalshave.com Some things stood out to me though. Their is less gold on this razor than what I saw in images of the Astrale series on the internet. Also the gold "Ebenholz sticker was starting to peel off and the razor wasn't wrapped and the seal on the box was open. Should I assume that they opened it to get it shave ready or?

I can't say why it was opened, but from their site for that razor, this is copy/paste.
    "Dovo Warranty

    Ready to Shave:
All Dovo straight razors have been factory certified as "ready to shave", but do require proper stropping before use. We can provide references to trusted honemeisters for customers that prefer to have a blade that is sharper than factory standards.
Note: Honing your razor voids Dovo's factory warranty. Please call 1(800)801-0769 for further questions and assistance.".
Based on that I don't think they did anything to make it shave ready. On the gold, someone familiar with that particular razor will probably provide some insight. Good luck and hope its all correct and works out well for you! Howard

Not sure what to make of that. I was expecting this Dovo Astrale, Half Hollow Carbon Steel, 5/8" | RoyalShave but got this gold stamp instead THE MOTLEY :: :: SUPERIOR GROOMING FOR MEN

I'm not sure what THE MOTLEY SUPERIOR is or means. Both your links show the same razor, with the difference being one has the zodiac sign for Pisces and the other one no sign put on yet. Yours has the lion for Leo.

Ps your photo is too blurry to see the etching.

I took the pic with my phone. THe royalshave link contains the image of the gold stamp I thought I was getting, while the other link contains the gold stamp that I actually got.

I guess I'm confused. Are talking about the gold etching on the blade or the zodiac sign on the scales. The blade etching seems identical on both links?

The gold etching. It doesn't have the gold filled in around the stars/planet, and outline like it shows in the royalshave.com link, instead it just has the outline, stars and planet along with the Dovo and Astrale words, no goldwash in the background. Its harder to tell because I took the pic with my phone.

OK, I gotcha! I finally see what you mean. That's a good test for observation. Boy, I don't have an answer, except one may be older than the other and they changed their etching procedure. Try contacting RoyalShave and see what they say about it. I wouldn't use, strop, or do anything to it until you've contacted them. Good Luck and let us know what they say. I suspect the shave will be the same though.

I know that Classicshaving.com is no longer selling it because they said that Dovo isn't making anymore of the version of Astrale that I bought. And everywhere else that sells them only sells them with the blank plates, not the zodiac signs.

I was setting here putting together all of your concerns. It really sounds like you got a razor that's been in their inventory for some time. It all sounds kind of age related. I don't know if they have a store front or not, doesn't look like they do, but it might have been in a display or something and that's why it was also opened. I think contacting them and expressing your concerns is your best option. Best of Luck!! I know I like getting what I see also.
