And Joseph said unto thee...buy me a 15/16 and an 8/8
Here for your viewing pleasure are 2 cut throats that I have recently added to my collection .
15/16 Joseph Elliot "Best Silver Steel with what looks like dark horn scales.
8/8 Joseph Smith & Sons "Celebrated Razor 3415" with The Old English Razor written on the scales
I was using the SRP database to try to estimate their age based on their tails and I came up with between 1810 and 1845. I'm impressed. I love when people quote about what was happening in this country based on manufactures dates...One I read said something like..there were 3 stars and 1 stripe on the American flag at the time...LOL
Thanks for looking

Both are AWESOME ... Really nice. I like the style of them both....
But that 8/8 Joseph Smith & Sons is exceptional. Id love to see a head on shot of the blade.
Is the spine even all the way across or does it have a different angle on the second half ?

Thanked: 4Pretty cute ones!
The tang of Joseph Elliot's seems to be special, I guess that notch isn't original!?

The razor has an assemetrical spine. I didn't even to look to see if the design was the same on both sides. I assumed that I was but it's not.
I hope that it was actually made like that. (I'm crying softly on the inside) You can get the best glimpse of it in pic 4. You can see the variation in shadow and lit surface. I will take another shot soon.
Thanks C.M. Pheonix

Yes sir. Def not as pronounced but yes. Is that why people put tape on the spine while honing? So that doesn't happen...LOL

Any thoughts on why they are made like that?

Yea thats some sort of functional anomaly that we see occasionally on old Sheffields. I don't think anyone is certain of the purpose. Might simply be aesthetic. Two gorgeous razors by the way!
