2 new razors to add to the collection..
Hi all,
This week I got a couple of saves from the FleaBay that arrived in pretty horrible shape. With some TLC and a lot of patience, I was able to make them into some pretty good razors again.
First up is a 11/16 Clauss (call if a 5/8 if you want) half hollow with a covered tang. The metal only goes part of the way thru the tang and the rest is of whatever material the cover is made of. (plastic??). It has some really nice gold etching that was left to rust and corrode and it was horribly pitted right in the center of it, so it didn't survive. I honed it up yesterday and test shaved it this morning. It was a fantastic shaver. Crispy probably doesn't do it justice. It was smooth and keen, just the way I like them to be. I used 220, 400 and 600 wet or dry, then a lot of buffing on the wheel to get the shine back. Some Mothers Chrome Polish and a new set of black acrylic scales, they had to be huge to accomodate the extra thick tang, and she looks pretty darn nice now.

Next up is a G. Felix Solingen #74 Gloriawerks 5/8 that also was a total wreck. It has horrible pitting, fortunately none of it was up to the edge. It cleaned up nice and honed beautifully, but the pitting was so bad that it could not all be removed, so one side looks like swiss cheese, but it's still a fine razor. If I had sanded enough to get all the pitting out, there wouldn't have been a blade left!!!
Pic set #2
Sorry for the poor quality of the last set of pics, it was about midnight and I had just finished working on it. You can still see the pitting and the shine at least!!
Anyway, those are my newest additions, razors number 49 and 50 in the rotation!!
Thanks for giving me a place to show them!
Enjoy!

Nice saves! I really like the yellow tang on the Clauss but is it my imagination or does the spine look wide?

Travis, It's the way they are diamond ground. It has a cool little point on it were they put the 2 top angles together with 2 side angles to form a 4 sided point on the tip. The spine is normal width (although the tang is about double sized). and had 0 (I mean NONE) hone wear on it. I'm not sure if it had ever been honed before. If so, they used tape, as did I.
That is a very strange tang, the metal only goes to the pin hole, after that, just fragile plastic. It is fairly translucent as well, as you can see by the sunshine glowing thru it. Neat huh! My second Clauss.
Thanks for looking! Sorry my camera skills suck so bad, it actually looks better than the pics make it out to.
TTYL,
M
