Thanked: 3224George Wostenholm & Son Original Pipe Razor
Well, at least the blade. Picked this up yesterday as I thought the blade was worth saving even though the replacement scales were total garbage. Chucked the scales and cleaned up the blade a little. Wanted an English blade anyway and prefer to get things locally. Tell me if it is worth saving and re scaling.

That is one beautiful blade. If you are not skilled at refurbishing, I would spend the money on it and have one of the Pros here rescale it. I have a pipe razor rescaled by one of the members here.

Thanked: 3224Thanks gents, I guess then it is worth saving. I don't know if I will clean it up much more than it is and just get it honed by an expert. I want to keep the stamping and don't want to polish it out. The photos don't show it but it is shiny enough for me and I can live with a little tarnish on a user. There is no rush so I might as well give re scaling it a go and if I am not satisfied with the job it can always be sent out.

There is plenty of info on making scales in the WIKI, Bob - that's how I learned.
Acrylic is cheap (free sometimes) and easy enough to work with - and if you stuff it up it doesn't matter.
Hope it works for you and please show us the results.

Thanked: 3224Thanks for the tip on where to scrounge some acrylic and I will try get some 3.5mm stuff. In the meantime I found a chunk of Purple Heart, 1x1.25x24 inches, at a local lumber store. Also got them to make a saw cut in the middle as I don't have much in the way of power tools. Went home and started to work on the block of wood with files, spoke shave and sand paper to shape it. Did use a hand miter saw also. Found some proper brass rod and washer at a local hobby shop. This is what I came up with. It needs the final sanding steps and finish coat and repining so 70% there. Man what a load of work by hand but interesting.
