Default My Gnarly 8/8 Wade & Butcher

I started shaving with a straight razor this last December, and I have since used a straight exclusively, 5-7 days a week. Gotta shave for work and my wife! My first razor was a 6/8 Hart, round point. I refinished the Cocobolo scales with some sanding and true oil, and now they look great. My second razor, purchased in February, was a 7/8 TI with blond horn scales. Both shave excellent. Now, I received this Wade & Butcher, 8/8 straight, which arrived as dull as a butter knife. I set the bevel and honed it this morning, stropped it, and just shaved with it. WOW!!! I can not believe how smooth, comfortable, and effortless this shave was. It feels like I did the fool's pass, and I didn't (i do at times, which is a good indicator for me of how sharp the blade is.) The blade is pitted and has areas of discoloring, the scales are without blemish, but the edge that I put on it is incredible. Blew me away. This is a keeper, for sure, and I think I will leave it as is.

Man that's great! Those concave Wade and Butchers are a treat to hone and shave! Now, I might regret asking. What is a fool's pass?

Oh, that's when you go against the grain between your lip and nose. At least that's what I've heard it's called.

Yep, that sounds about right! No wonder I did not know what it was!

Great to see an old Wade & Butcher back on the line.

Very nice. One day I'll get myself a big W&B like that...
