    Default Clauss USMC 6/8

I picked up a Clauss United States Marine Corp Razor about a week ago. It is in really great shape, and I was excited to get it, as this is my first 6/8's blade. I had been meaning to post it here so I could show it off , although I just hadn't gotten around to it. Earlier today though I saw an auction on the Bay for the exact razor, in almost the exact same condition as mine; and it was going for $177.50 (although it is "shave ready") with over 3 days left. I got pretty excited when I saw that! As I paid substantially less for it. I would like to know if this is a desirable razor, and if the amount the one on Ebay is going for, actually represents the true value of the razor. I don't plan on selling it, but I would like to know a little more about it, inasmuch as it always feels good when you know did well on a purchase.

T, Clauss is a great razor, and that one seems to be in outrageously great shape. It should be a wonderful shaver. The quality and the condition overwhelm whatever the cost/value conditions are. Unless there's serious warp or wave, you got a great razor. Get 'er honed up and tell us about the shave. If you don't hone, either send to a pro or I'd be glad to hone for just postage cost.

Well thank you! I do not hone, so I was planning on sending it out very soon! Although, I appreciate your offer and I will definitely keep it in mind. I was wondering why the one on ebay is going for so much (beside being in great condition). Is it a rare model?

Any time you get two persons who want the same thing. Of course, those bidders may think that the razor is sometype of "official" USMC issued item. I have yet to see research that proves the government entered into a contract with Clauss to make those marked.

There are 2 different Marine Corps razors by Clauss the older of the 2 has USMC etched on the Blade and those razors date back to the Spanish American War The other the 1 like you have is Pre-WW I it has some type of coating on the blade to keep it from rusting that being said it will rust if not taken care of. I own both models and only shave with 1 or the other on the 10 of November. Get honed and enjoy a piece of History

Thank you for the info! I always thought the Marines weren't formed until WWII, so i thought my razor was made in the 40's.

you're off by a couple of years..
Captain Samuel Nicholas formed two battalions of Continental Marines on 10 November 1775 in Philadelphia as naval infantry.[10] Since then, the mission of the Marine Corps has evolved with changing military doctrine and American foreign policy.
