Unless I'm badly mistaken only the seller sees how many are watching. Sniper is a misnomer AFAIC. I bid/snipe 4 seconds before the end. I do it manually. Why use a program and lose the adrenaline rush ? Anyway, I say it is a misnomer because if your bid is higher than mine you'll win. If mine is higher, obviously I wanted it worse than you did.

If I'm not mistaken when you do a search on ebay, below this listing that you are currently on there is a section where you can see what "others are watching". To keep you bidding on similiar items i guess. That's how I found some of the razors that I own.
"Sniper is a misnomer AFAIC" - what does this mean?
I heard there were programs for ebay bidding. I've never seen one myself. I do it the old fashioned way as well...stare at a screen for 2 hours, constantly hitting refresh and I cancel all of my other plans and put in a ridiculous morgage payment size bid as close to the end as I can stand.

I say it is a misnomer, 'as far as I'm concerned' because placing a bid in an auction in the last few seconds is, IMHO, not being a sniper. Rather it is being an intelligent bidder. These guys who pay $ to see their name in the high bidder slot days, hours before the thing ends are a seller's dream. Bidding at the end of the auction, as I do, is more fair IMO. If I don't bid enough to get it then the other guy valued the item more than I did. I don't give them time to get in a counter bid but neither can I. I put in my max and that is it. If their max is higher I lose with no recourse to go above my max in the heat of the moment. Bidding wars are not my style.
