    Default Ebay find

Payed more than I wanted, but less than I was prepared to so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Box has a penned in date of 1840. I doubt that either razor is that old. I KNOW the black handled one isn't but I was after the ivory handled razor and the box. Box has seen better days but it's still pretty nice.
The ivory handled JR is a 7/8 without a lot of wear and with minor spotting. The other razor is well worn and I believe it would shave as it is.

Here's the real reason I went after it.

Looks much nicer with two ivory JR's in it and the one on the bottom of th epic is probably closer to the date on the box.

I'll clean the top one up a bit and clean all the fuzz and crap out of the box and they'll look even better.

Ah yes! I remember that one going through my watch list, I don't think I bid on it.... But man am I glad you got it! The box clearly needed both those ivory Rodgers in there.

Ivory and gutta percha just don't belong together unless you're making a statement.

    Zac,

I took that ivory handled one and hit it on a Black Beauty razor hone about 20 licks, then I took both of them and stropped em. Shaved with 'em last night.

The ivory needs a bit more time of a finish stone. That ugly, worn down, misshapen, black handled razor shaved like a dream.

Whoever owned 'em and used 'em took good care of 'em and pretty much left 'em ready to go.

First time that's ever happened for me an ebay buy.

    Hello

I own tow similar boxes, also with ivory razors in it, and I'm intressting in dating them !

Is the date "1840" (marked with ink), is it a reliable date ? Because the tow boxes I have show very different wear, the first must be quite old like yours, the other looks mutch better...

    regards

The 1840 date is probably reliable. However, I doubt that the razors are original to the box. It is possible for the ivory, but I think more likely not. The ivory in the bottom of the box is one I already had so I know it probably never saw the box before I put it in it.

It would be best if you took some good pictures of the boxes and the razors and posted them. Show close ups of the tang stamps and the good pictures of the razors themselves along with their boxes. We all love looking at razor pics.

There are some very knowledgeable gents here that could probably get it pretty close for you. I'd post the pics in the "RAZORS" forum and ask the same questions as you asked here.

Wow. I've never had that happen. Every now and again I get one that'll knock a stray arm hair or two, but that's been about as good as it gets (with the exception of the Rodgers 7 day set which was explicitly honed beforehand).

I do have an old frameback with a nasty frown in the blade that honed up and shaves great all the same.
