Thanked: 3Todays finds: W&B, soap, advertisement
Went to a local antique mall today just to poke around, ended up coming home with some finds, anyone have any insight on age or if I came off with a good deal?
Blade- Wade & Butcher. this will be my first restoration project, I am excited about it. The toe has a light chip in it, otherwise no cracks or nicks, next to no pitting (one thing I was looking for), so should polish up nice. Engraving is next to gone can still clearly make out the WADE & _________R, the rest is gone but still happy. Picked up the blade for $15, the scales are shot as you can see, they have already been tossed. Now on the search for some new scales for what will be my first keep/collection straight. Anyone have any idea on age or other info on it?
Soap- This I am still trying to research more on and sure some of you can help. I am not sure I will use this soap as it is for sure old and don't know how smart it would be, plus it is still sudo brand new (been opened but never used). Wrisley Old Fashioned Lavender Shaving Soap. I have seen pictures of some of these soaps having a clover leaf design in the middle but havn't seen any with my exact design. Any info you guys can provide on it for me? Only paid $10 so not to worried on that part.
Advertisement- This I am sure isnt much but I like it, going to frame it up and put it in my shave den. I am vintage, Harley and Tattoo guy (hints HDguy ha), have always been a pinup fan. Advertisement is from a magazine as there is an article on the back. It is an advertisement for Mennen Skin Bracer aftershave "Its He-Man Aroma WOWS the Ladies!" haha. Advertisement is copyrighted 1947.
Again any insight into the blade and soap I would greatly appreciate (years, age, rarity etc) these wont ever be leaving my collection. Thanks everyoneLast edited by HDguy; 07-30-2012 at 12:53 AM.

Thanked: 884Looks as if the WADE & BUTCHER was ground off.
I've got a very similar W&B that is a re-ground blade. It was common "back in the day" to have a worn razor re-ground to give it more life. The old W&B wedges had a LOT of meat and appear ot have been candidates for re-grinding. AS for age? Hard to tell on that darlin'. I wouldn't be scared to say mid to late 19th century. Should clean up and make a great shaver.
Mine did.
