    Default A Family of Scuttles

About a month and a half ago I took a motorcycle ride along the Lakeshore and wandered into a pottery studio in Algoma called Clay On Steele. The resident artist, Keith, was working as I checked out the creations on the shelves. I asked him if he had ever heard of a shaving scuttle and he said "no, draw me a picture". So I did and he said that he'd make me a couple. Fast forward and I have THREE new locally-made scuttles. It was definitely a learning process for the artist, as well as a good deal for me (got a great price on them). I've used them all and they work great.
So, I think the moral of the story is: support your local artists; it could be a great way to get a truly unique piece of art that is fully functional, as well as beautiful.
Here's a picture of the new scuttles with my G20.

Those are some pretty fine looking scuttles! I especially like the blue and creme one. Maybe he could advertise and become a vendor here? Just a thought.

Nice collection. I had the same thought and communicated with a local artist who also had no conception of what on was. I even sent him links to various sites that had scuttles. Upshot was that yes he could make one and I said I'll have one. That was months ago and I now have one coming from the states. Sometime I have the impression "artist" means flaky. Sometimes supporting your local artisans just does not work. Glad your experience was different.
