I like patina lately. I mean I REALLY like patina. I want to marry it and want it to have my babies. But I don't see patina on this that I'd be obsessive about keeping. I think this'd look really cool highly polished (or with a satin finish) with modern looking big scales with a point...

Carl, you mean like TI scales? I saw that Max did one like this a little while back with pointed scales. I like the design, but always associate those with TI. Whenever I think of a big WB with nice petina, I think of Bela's. I might try to emulate that.

Not being an experienced restorer, I just wanted to say what a nice large blade with the potential to go a few different ways. I like what Jimmy said about just a light polishing and hone to see how it shaves first and that gives you time to consider what if any your next step might be. Personally, I think the scales would bug me enough that I would either rescale with new or original replacement scales in the end.

Ah, I see. Nice. Hmmm... options. If I had all the skill needed (a big if), I'd try to save the stacked washers, make a pair of horn scales from the horn I have laying around waiting to be straightened, clean up the blade and add a "petina" finish, and have it closer to Béla's (Fonthunter's) classic 7/8:

That looks like active rust on the face of mine, and right at the stabilizer, so it might be tricky to polish up too much, I'll have to see, but I wouldn't do a mirror finish anyway. I appreciate everyone's responses and opinions. I've sought feedback from you experienced guys about how you would customize a razor asw ell as from the pros (and gotten very detailed, candid responses about why a blade would be undesirable to restore or what needed fixed) and I value these opinions.
