3 NOS Straights, 2 ERNs, 1 J A Henckels
Last weekend I put bids in on 4 NOS Solingen straights, 2 ERNs (S 525)and 2 J A Henckels 401. The auction for all four were ending at the same minute, so I had 2 windows open and let the others go, thinking I could get one NOS straight. Somehow I won 3 of the 4. The sellers were the Nuns of St. Dominic in Blauvelt, N.Y. (fundsfornuns). The razors were donated by someone who had worked in a grinding shop from 1950 to 2000. When he left he kept what was left in the shop. They sent the razors in the ERN box that would have held 6 straights. The ERNs say Best Silver Steel and were stated to be 6/8, but measure 13/16 and the Henckels is 5/8.
This is photo heavy.

Yeah, I watch for any shaving tools on Foyle's War and have only seen DE razors so far. The stories are very well done.

I almost snagged those ERN's from under you until my fiancee requested funds be placed elsewhere. Lucky dog! At least they went to a good home.
Congrats!

Very nice. What intrigues me is the guy who donated them to the nuns. I would love to talk with him and pick his brain on the old days in Solingen when he worked for the razor co. I bet he could tell us who made the dubl ducks, C-Mons and all of that. Anyway ..... congrats on the haul.

Well, I certainly didn't expect to get 3 razors. They are truly wonderful razors. I tried the Henckels and was surprised that it was actually shaving down the whiskers, since it felt so smooth and easy going along my cheek. I also did the other cheek with an Ern and it is terrific like all Erns.
I have corresponded with the nuns and was interested in the guy in the grind shop too and wondered, if he has other stuff stocked away and what a grind shop actually did. I will see if they will ask him to let me contact him.
