Default Razor For My 16 Yr. Old Son

While shopping with my son this weekend for some clothes for Homecoming (he's going with his girlfriend), we, at one point, talked about shaving, and for the first time he said he wants to give shaving with a straight a go. I, as expected, was beside myself, as he had heretofor said he had no interest in straight razor shaving. He does not have much to shave, yet, and he shaves once to twice a week, and then its only his mustache and chin, and his cheeks about once a month.

So, I picked up this razor today on ebay. I figure a 5/8 will be a good size for his young face, and the rounded toe will be friendly. I wil clean up this razor when it arrives with sandpaper, if need be, and some metal polish. I am in no hurry, so I am going to try to do it right. Then I am going to get is shave ready. I am so looking forward to this. Let me know what you think of the choice for his first razor!

That will buff out with some spit... That will make him a damn fine razor.

From the pics it looks like it will polish off easy. Hope he loves shaving with it.
Shaving with facial hair is like a golfcourse. It's a challenge of rough and fairways. You are the skilled greenskeeper of your face?

Been crazy busy lately, with work and family stuff. Finally got around to cleaning up this razor. Took a few hours, and a couple of cuts on my thumb from carelessness, but here it is. It took a while and some persistence to set the bevel on this one, but now it's, well, razor sharp. Shave test yesterday with a weekend's worth of stubble=wicked sharp, smooth.

My son is busy during the week with school and football, so we are going to give it shot this weekend. I know I am way more excited about this than him, and I'm trying not to show it. Oh well. I will hopefully post a pic of his first shave with a straight.

A very nice job of work it is!
I am delighted that you, as a parent, are starting your son off in a good way. It was the other way around for me. My son got me into straight razor shaving!
