Scales ID
I picked this little guy up on ebay about 2 months ago. Estate find they said. 50 bucks later I have what looks like a completely restored Frederick Reynolds. Honed and shave ready. It has wood scales that I am unable to identify. Little help please.

Thanked: 44It is impossible to identify certain woods on restored razors, for two reasons:
1. When the scales are made with spalted, burled, curly, or otherwise deformed wood, the example wood no longer looks much like the kind that it was originally from.
2. The size of scales are sometimes too small to identify the grain structure on some woods to determine the type.

Nice restore! Love those FR shaves. Is that a wedge? If it is, be careful you don't fall in love with it, wedges are easy to fall for....
The wood looks a little like Bacote, but it also has the characteristics of burl so its really hard to tell. No matter, its still a great looking razor......enjoy!

Yes, it does look like Bacote wood. I googled both bacote and burl and think you might be right. As far as the FR being a wedge, it is and I have. Thanks for your help.
