Default New acquisitions from 9th Annual Shaving Memorobilia Show

    Five acquisitions:
    1. An absolute lesson from the master, Lynn Abrams, on honing straight razors. I sat with him for at least an hour watching him hone. He checked out a couple of ebay purchases for me and helped me realize I got a way better deal than I originally thought. He is one of the nicest guys I've ever met and was amazed that he wasn't pushing any merchandise (He didn't bring any to sell!) and that tells me he was more interested in hanging out and discussing hones and honing. It made me rethink my definition of sharp.
    2. I bought a 7/8 wedge with "Allison's Celebrated Razor" on the tang, no other marks.I will post pictures later. The razor is in fantastic shape and I will post pictures later. I appreciate any info on that razor. This was the most I have spent on one razor, but still under a hundred bucks.
    3. I got 3 blades ready for rescaling. A shoulderless french point 6/8 Slater Brothers "Venture" blade with beehive and manufacturer etching on the blade.
    Same one as posted here:
    http://straightrazorpalace.com/show-...quisition.html

A 6/8 round point FRAMM with stars on the tang, made in Germany. I read on the site earlier that Framm was a german cutlery maker who fled Nazi germany in the 30's, and a I-XL Geo. Wostenholm with a point that is between a french and rounded point.

There were so many fantastic razors, I blew a fuse. I couldn't believe there were hundreds of razors with a ridiculous number of 10/8 W&B FBU, seven day sets in ivory, and seven day sets with seven blades that connected to one handle. I actually came home with money because I couldn't bring myself to pay the prices they were asking, but were absolutely worth. There was some serious money changing hands and I will be better prepared for next year.

There was a slater london who sold infill wood planes. I don't know anything about vintage english razors, but it's not out of the question that the razor could've been made in sheffield for sale in a maker's shop in london. There certainly were other edge tool makers who dabbled in razors (greaves and sons, etc).

Are you into wood planes as well? Were they similar to the Norris A2s? I used to collect planes, but know just have a couple that I use regularly.

I like wood planes, but the prices of the *good* infills are past what I like to spend. Someone gave me a slater infill bullnose that his father had, missing its iron, and I made another one for it. It's a really nice little plane.

I have scratch made a loose copy of a norris A13, a spiers panel plane kit, and another small 55 degree infill from scratch (which at the time was just to see if I could get a good working plane). I have a norris a6 copy/kit in the works right now.

I see in the past couple of decades, norris planes have gone up a lot, I just arrived too late on the scene to buy them based on where they've gone in price.

You can google image "slater infill" and see what slater made, they had a whole range of planes, but in my opinion other than the bullnose, most of the original norris and spiers planes looked nicer.

It was in WestChester a couple of blocks from IKEA. It was last Saturday and is a yearly event (but I am not sure if it is in the same place. The link is :

Here they are. Honed up the Allison's and will shave with it tonight.

Used my new stones and diamond spray from SRD and my lesson from Lynn and I may have a new favorite razor!
