5/8 W&Butcher in sculpted faux tortoise
I accidentally got this off Ebay and it arrived today. Haven't done anything to it yet except for clean the grunge off the scales. Lots of sanding and polishing yet to come.
I was hoping when I bid that it would be actual tortoise, but the scales are very definitely celluloid. But on the plus side, they're gorgeous! The pictures just don't do them justice. When the Dude is recognized in the world, unDudeness will be seen everywhere--- the Dude de Ching

Yeah they're immaculate except for a very slight warp so that you have to guide the blade in. No big deal.
Now to sandblast the small rust spots out and start hand sanding it up beautiful! When the Dude is recognized in the world, unDudeness will be seen everywhere--- the Dude de Ching

Me thinks you came out on the plus side either way bro.

Wow that looks WAY better than the original eBay shot! Good looking razor. Bet it'll shave like a king too!
If the scales are a bit warped, I was reading a thread where gssixgun or Glen suggested using a plastic spoon, tape, and some hot water to get it all straightened out. The guy who did it met with success. You would have to PM Glen about it or search for straightening out warped scales or whatever but I am going to give it a shot on a couple of mine.
Anyway - yeah those scales are awesome and not a second to the turtle.David

Re: 5/8 W&Butcher in sculpted faux tortoise
I've got a steam machine at work that I plan to use to straighten them out. It's really not much of a warp at all, so I'm not too worried.
It actually looks better in real life than the pics show, the scales have a nicer shine to them than my crappy cell phone pics show. I'm well pleased! When the Dude is recognized in the world, unDudeness will be seen everywhere--- the Dude de Ching
