Okay, fine. I got an 17/16 razor.

Ebay listing:
Wade & Butcher curved blade straight razor. The razors blade has rust pitting but could be sharpened by someone with the knowledge to do so.I do not know what the handle is made of but it looks like it's plastic. This razor looks pretty old and I don't know if they made plastic back then. The blade itself(no tang included) is 1" wide and 3 1/4" long. The total opened length of the piece is 10 1/8".Thank you for looking.
So I got this in the mail today and actually it's 17/16. Super clean. The scales are shiny like a 70's cadillac and after honing it should be pretty much shave ready. No resto needed IMO.
The small amount of rust along the edge might bring it down to 8/8 after honing. It's big, it's heavy, it's a W&B. What's not to love.
Thanks for looking

The most I would do is a hone and a re-pin... but awesome find let us know how it shaves

Thanked: 247Okay, fine. I got an 17/16 razor.
Very nice score.
It appears that there is a vertical line near the heel where the blade color changes. Is that just lighting or some odd stain? Regardless, I'd be proud to own that one. Enjoy!

Nice Work, Cheetah! I would think the scales to be Bakelite, but seem to fit the blade well. The top "collars" need to go!
A Biggie!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Those are probably gutta percha scales, or one of the zillion different brands of same. Basically vulcanized rubber. It was originally made to be a cheap replacement for ebony. Got used for all kinds of things from furniture to jewelry. In fact, an American Congressman was nearly beaten to death with a cane made of it during an especially lively discussion in Congress.
Personally, I'm not a fan. It's a pain to repair and it smells kinda bad if it gets warmed up even to body-temperature. That said, it polishes beautifully and it's pretty durable.
The line on the blade looks to me like it was kept near a razor with scale rot and got a slight 'tan' like the Greaves I had in my travel kit.
Cheetah, you can definitely get that one honed and use it as-is. It'll be a fine, fine shaver!-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.

They're really not hard to find on ebay (if that's where youy're looking)
You can modify your search of straight razors to weed out sizes that you want or don't want.
I wish that I had places near me, like some people in this forum, where they drive through some small town and find the same razor for 5 bucks. Now that's luck. What I have is called RAD and alot of patience.
Thanks
