Got my Dovo Bismarck from The Superior Shave
Well guys i just received today my Dovo Bismarck from The Superior Shave and it is more beautiful than in the pictures.
Jarrod is a straight up guy with no punches held back.
What he says is what you get.
I am by far not a pro with straight shaving but i have bought a couple from Larry at Whipped Dog one from Phil at Classic Edge and now from Jarrod.
All of them are great people, amazing communication great shipping time and last but not least awesome products.
Been shaving with a straight now for about 2 months and getting pretty good at it with these fine tools and all of your information on how to go about it.
A little while ago i got my first BBS with astraight for the first time with my Dovo Special.
Now i got to see if i can repeat it with my Bismarck.
Now i have a question for you all.
I am getting better at stropping and looking to get a better leather strop.
Jarrod has some nice ones on his site.
Would you be able to recommend one that is not too expensive, maybe more than 2 inches wide and as for it having fabric on the other side i don't really now if it is necessary as some want it or don't care for it.
Or would you recommend something like the Big Daddy or Big Mamma?
thank you if you any input and here are some pictures of the Bismarck from Jarrod.

Buy them both, treat yourself good, it's Christmas.
Send Jarrod a Christmas card too.

Thanked: 458What are you referencing with big daddy and big momma, the star shaving strops?
I have the same razor as you, bought it from SRD. It's the only new razor I've had, and I think it's Dovo's best offering for shave and price considered if you like razors with some mass.
I'd like to see a picture looking down on the top of the spine. The red notches in the back of the razor look different than mine, mine are unevenly done on the razor (but for a razor that's $130, I don't care too much), but they do drape over onto the sides of the spine a little bit. For a while, every new one pictured on here was like mine with the notches out of line the same way, but yours is different.

The Bismarck is my favourite of dovo's current offerings. For a full hollow it has a good amount of heft and I find it very ergonomic and easy to strop. Use it in good health!

Good catch, I have 2 and the spine work is different on them as well... see here http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...rck-6-8-a.html
Maybe its the latest generation? Either way I love the Bismarcks. They're a beautiful razor.
As for the strop, I have a the Big Daddy from starshaving and it's an excellent strop. I also have their large "OVB" which is also nice, but for the big daddy is adequate. I only prefer my OVB because I have a razor thats longer than 3" and that strop happens to be 3.25" wide
Edit: I also noticed that you're located in Canada. Shipping from Starshaving cost me $25, so with that money you might do better buying from Fendrihan or someone else local to Canada that offers free shipping. I think the cost comes to almost the same but you'll have it faster and won't have to worry about potential duty/taxes at the border.Last edited by fchan; 12-07-2012 at 06:03 PM.

My camera is not the best but here are a couple of pics on the spine of my Bismarck.
But that wouldn't bother me too much as long as it shaves well.
As for a strop i decided to get a Kohl & Laibach (aka "Herold") Cowhide Strops from Jarrod as he offers free shipping and shipping charges to Canada are a bummer and can be quite high.
I don't know much about that strop but it is 3 inches wide with no linen or back side to it.
Thanks for the help and please show the Hinkle razor when you get it.

Amazing razor. That is the one that is on the highest place on my "want to buy" list.
