    Yea, all the quilted maple really does go for a small fortune. This board went under the razor because all the luthiers are looking for maple. And I put a pretty solid snipe on this so I got lucky. Now to chop it up and dispense it where its wanted.

    I am familiar with the 3D effect of quilted lumber and your piece is fantastic! I was just questioning it being walnut for a piece that apparently spend 80 years in a barn it looks very light in color, most woods darken with age and even walnut, nevertheless a great piece!

    You are normally right. I sometimes find that the highly figured, or spalted, or curly, etc. woods from any species don't always follow the same rules as far as color and grain goes. You'd be able to tell real quick that its walnut in person

    Walnut is porous and maple is not. Walnut you can see those pores.
