Thanked: 53 new grabs... I think I am starting to have a problem
Howdy,
Been poking around my local antique shop and came across more than a few razors I wanted. After hemming and hawing I chose three that were within my budget and which caught my eye. I was originally just going back for the Leader but I caught that damn "must have" bug... two of these will be my first wedge so I am pretty excited about the buys.
All three snags
#1
Wade and Butcher, Wedge, 5/8+ (more like 11/16)... looked like more of a project is why I snagged it
#2
John Seller and Sons, Wedge, 6/8+ (more like 13/16)... this thing feels huge to me, just shy of 1/4" thick spine
#3
Leader, just shy of 6/8, I love all the extra pretty things on this bad boy... I especially love the little people engraving

Very nice find. They all look like they will turn out nicely, but that Sellers looks stunning.

Thanked: 5Looks to be just a bit of dirt and minor corrosion... can almost remove it all with my fingernail. Going to get some Fitz out and see how well it cleans it up.

Thanked: 5I must admit I am super stoked about the Sellers... my first "big" razor... I think I felt a slight increase in the size of my manhood when I held it.

Nice score on the Engels. The Sellers sure looks like a microtome from the head on shot. Is the left side of the blade totally flat compared to the slight hollow of the right?

Thanked: 5Now that I look at it closer, there does appear to be a slight hollow on the right side and the left is significantly flatter.... this is not something I am familiar with to be honest... going to have to do a bit of research now

They were made for cutting very thin samples for microscopy. You can still shave with them, they're just a little different to hone.
edit: here's a good resource from Jimmy http://straightrazorpalace.com/advan...microtome.html

Thanked: 5Interesting... I like the idea of shaving AND performing surgery at the same time
