Default first find, now what to do with them...

had a good day at 2 antique stores today, these are the first razors I've picked up to do a restore on. not sure if the straight razor is salvageable but am hoping that it is. the safety razor needs the threads repaired on the second part of the handle.

The straight looks like it may have a bad case of cell rot.

It is in sad shape, the scales are good though, and with the box couldn't pass it up.

If it's cell rot on the blade then it's caused by the scales. If you put them on another blade they will do the same thing to that blade.

That's no good, I'm new, is there a way to tell if that is the case?

Otsm, The cell rot Catrentshaving refers to is celluloid rot. Chemicals in some of the antique celluloid scales become unstable with time and leach out onto the steel and causes rust to form. Once this starts to occur in the celluloid there is no stopping it.

Judging from the pattern of the rust on the blade it matches the shape and pattern of the scales. Thats a real good sign that it's cell rot. Also, do the scales have a camphor type odor to them?

Did a search for cell rot, not a good way to go. As far as smell, all I can smell is old metal, like a tool box that has old tools in it

I would say it's definately got cell rot. Unfortunately both the blade and scales are of no use
