Default You can still score on ebay - WB and John Barber

Just grabbed this lot on a BIN for, well, much less than I should have.

First up: WB FBU, just over 8/8 in good condition. The scales are quite crazed on the pile side, as well as some oxidation. Will set about clearing that up soon.

Up next, the star of the show, a WB For Gentlemens Use. This one looks to be all original and never touched a restoration. It's still got the mirror polish on the blade, rough tail, and mirror polish on the scales. Barely used. Right around 15/16. (what looks like a crack is just the change in angle of the grind at the toe)

And last up from this lot, a nice John Barber from the 1820s-30s. This one as well still has a lot of what looks like its original polish on the scales and some parts of the blade.

I also grabbed a nice Wostenholm diamond edge for $10. Shame the scales were broken as they had their original polish as well:

Couldn't believe the lot I got. So I guess the overall message is that you can still get a lot of great scores on ebay, you just have to be patient and watch a lot. With these added I've now got a number of large choppers in all original condition close to how they looked leaving the factory. I think I will write a post up soon to try to gather original-condition razors from the period if people have some they want to share.

It is posts like this that put me in danger of RAD coming back strong ! Great haul. I'd rather have razors from that era, in that condition, than brand new full hollows from the 20th century. They've got soul !

I can't agree more, but lucky for me I get to try out both worlds. I also picked up a lot of around 6 Thiers, Le Grelots, and DOVO for around 20 bucks each. I'll put up some razor porn when I get the box in hand.

I bought a very decent Manhattan Cutlery (aka Boker) for $12 shipped recently. It's an eye catching razor and it's taking a nice polish.
One time, in band camp, I shaved with a Gold Dollar razor.

I've never heard of a Sheffield made Manhattan Cutlery straight razor being known as a Boker. Could you elaborate? Genuinely curious.

And congrats to Scienceguy for yet another ridiculously awesome snag.

Yeah, it's weird. According to Manah:

Manhattan Cutlery Co. and Manhattan Cutlery Co., Sheffield are H.Boker trademarks, 1868-1906.
