    Cool F.W. Engels 6/8 Special

Just got this F.W.Engels Special 6/8 Full Hollow with original scales and box.

Bought it from Max and as always he performed a wonderful restoration on this razor. He luckily could retain the scales and these just ooze time and lineage. The bolsters are superb and the green varnish is still beautiful.

And then the blade itself, it’s just outstanding. Max did a sweet job in polishing and maintaining the originality of the finish. The stamps on the tang are simply a work of art. So nice to see how all the adornments were so well executed and for me those are reason alone to love these FWEs.

For a 6/8 blade, with these light-weight scales, the balance is great. Compared to my 5/8 FEW, this somewhat larger bulk doesn’t make it less nimble. The handling in action is super and the first shave just was one of the very best. Max put a soft-but- nonetheless-killersharp- edge on the blade. Needles to say the result was BBS+++. After these kind of shaves I always pity all men in the world who potter and hassle with the multiblade madness or the electric motor shave mutilations.

The other razor in the pics is my FWE 5/8 with faux ivory scales.

    Thanks,
    Paul

Sweet razor. I'd love one just like it someday.

    The bolsters turned out amazing!
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Looks like at the stamp we can see F. Engels and his close friend K.Marx early years

I almost hate to say this because it might increase prices and competition for them but ...... the old barbers I knew in north Jersey, back in the '80s, specifically mentioned FWE along with dubl duck, as their favorite tools for shaving. I've got a few of their models and they have lived up to that reputation.

Max made that special look better than new.

And who are we to judge the ‘Old hands’ ?

I couldn’t agree more and it’s a great joy and privilege to, sort of, revive this truth.
They shave so sweetly with that soft-face-result afterwards, you know what I mean.
Let’s hope they will pop-up for sale now and then and keep them alive, well in fact Max can, I can only shave with them, haha.

    Thanks Jimmy,

    Paul

Sigh. I knew it would hurt when I clicked on this.

    That is one gorgeous razor!

I have a FWE on the way and if it even looks 1/2 as good as this one I'll be happy.
