    Sweet looking blade for sure, scales dont look so bad perhaps a few coats of wax to shine em up a little? Enjoy!

    i was thinking that also , there real light and dry ill for sure have to treat them with something ... i took off about 1/16 near the wedge to even it out where the wedge was set in farther then the scales ...

    Just my thoughts; looking at those photos only,,,
    If it was mine, I would tape the blade, leave the shoulders & tang bare, spray with EZ Off the entire scales, inside & out, let sit 30 minutes, no more. this would pull all the oils, crud from the scales & remove deep seated stains in the tang.
    or;
    remove blade, EZ Off the scales, dry 1 week, then refinish.

    I use the EZ Off method on some old gun stocks with great results.

    i may have to try that !!! i almost took it apart to sand the scales and maybe just give them a bit of rounded appearance on the edges but the pins are sunk in and i didnt want to fool with it today ... i think i will try the EZ off though and see what happens .. thanks for the info !!

    Soak it, but don't leave it on the wood more than 30 minutes.

    Sorry about that Gooser, I would never have advised that , if I would have thought it would crack.
