Great looking set! Makes me want to take mine out of the drawer where they have been sitting since I received them (lack of time and all...). Apart from the 1k/8k/12k, I opted for the 3k instead of the 5k; when looking at the size of the abrasive particles in micron (all values being estimations/approximations), I felt that the jump from the 1k's 15micron to the 5k's 3micron was big compared to the 3k's 5micron, i.e. 5 times smaller instead of 3 times smaller. Then, the jump to the 8k from the 3k is another approx 3 times smaller while the jump from the 5k is about 1.5 times smaller. So basically, I'm just saying that the progression felt more gradual with the 3k than with the 5k and that the 3k would polish off the 1k's scratches faster. This is all theory of course and does not reflect any meaningful/significant experience on my part... my 12k is the only one that has seen any action so far.

With this said, since you're already planning on getting the 3k anyways...

    Happy honing!

    Cheers.
