Think I may have come across this one last night, I didn't bid on it, or any of what I saw (including a Dovo Pearlex which sold for more than RRP lol) because I am trying to restrain myself and wait for something I like. Also I did not like the hone wear it has at the toe. Having said that, once cleaned up and properly honed there is no reason why it would not serve you well as a shaver I think you paid a pretty fair price for it though. Will you be using it for "practicing" or getting someone to hone it for you as a first razor?

I will most likely send it to be honed, I don't have any honing equipment (for now).

Size matters in razors, especially on Ebay. Throw another half inch of width on it and the bidding might have been intense.

There is nothing wrong with that razor from what I see in the photos. It should be easy to hone and to get shave ready. Frederick Reynolds are fine razors, and you will probably enjoy the silky smoothness of Sheffield steel, assuming it's honed and stropped properly. A little work with some metal polish for the blade and neatsfoot oil for the scales (assuming they are horn, hard to tell from the pics), and you can get that razor looking real nice. Good luck with it.

When you do decide to start honing for yourself, be sure to check out Lynn's DVD - World of Straight Razor Shaving, it's really the best place to start when it comes to SR shaving I believe. I learned so much from Lynn and his DVD and youtube videos! Enjoy the razor anyway man good find

I own a bigger Frederick Reynolds, 6/8 with a barber's notch, in a little bit better condition (less wear on the tang and no curves or anything), and it's a very nice shaver. I think you could easily send yours out to get honed and will treat you very nicely.

Thanked: 4827I see many seemingly nice razors go by on the bay for peanuts. They are usually generic razors, everyone is sleeping or already got their fill, it's just good for us. Be happy and shave well. Many of them are great shavers!
