New member of the family
I am pretty new to straight shaving, but I like to dive in to things head first. I was at a local antique shop yesterday and found this beauty.
If you can't tell from the lettering, it's a Genco Easy Aces. It looks like it has never been used and has the sharpest edge I have come across. It was sitting on a shelf with a price tag of $35 and my heart skipped a beat. The only pieces that show it's age are the pins, some of the lettering on the scales, and a small rust spot on the top of the spine. I was thinking about trying to cut through it with some Mothers, but I thought I would ask you fine folks if you had any other suggestions. I have some low and high grade sand papers I can use as well if need be.
Thanks for stopping by!

Nice find!
Sometimes pencil lead works well on spots like that. I like a .5mm mechanical pencil as it's pretty precise. Just try scribbling over the affected spots, then wipe away. It *may* do the trick. Otherwise, I'd go for the polish before reaching for sandpaper. There's no point removing any more metal than necessary.
Good luck
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

This must have been the competition for the cases ace or visa versa. They look like twins even the tang is blued. Very nice razor Jonah. I hope you get rid of that spot.

I couldn't believe how nearly perfect it was. They aren't that easy to come by in Tallahassee so finding a gem like this was nothing less than shocking.
After working the Mothers for a bit, the rust came off and left very mild pitting behind. I polished up the rest of the blade as well since I was there. It was a mildly nerve-racking experience simply because the blade is so insanely sharp. My brand new Dovo wasn't as sharp as this Genco, so I was extra careful not to lose my fingers on this guy.
