My beautiiful new Iwasaki
The only thing that I don't get to do is shave with it since I'll be sending it over to Glen, for him to touch it up and all that jazz.
After it gets sent over and brought back to my arms, then I'll indulge myself and enjoy my first shave with a kamisori.

I want that perfect edge before I try it out, wait a week or two and I'll love to try her out.

In general.... try the edge right out of the box. Lay out the new blade and a backup.
If you do not like the new edge finish with the backup.
Two good thing happen. If the edge was already correct you did not mess it up.
If the edge was not 100% you have a comparison to judge it against and a backup.
For me the kamisori would be a new experience. I doubt I could hone it as well as
the maker on my first try.
After the first shave test or two... I would decide what to do next.

Thanked: 0Been looking at these bad boys. Where did you find this razor? (store, location, etc) I see that SRD is out of stock. I would like to add one to my growing collection.

I'd try it first also. That way when you get it back you'll have the answer for someone else with a new Iwasaki. "Should I send it out to be honed professionally"? You have the answer already, I suspect, but then you'll have empirical knowledge of the answer.
Enjoy that razor!!

Thanked: 13249I'll be honest here, I will test shave it before I hone it, so you might as well do the same, it is information that you can't get twice
once it touches the hones that edge is gone forever Good or Bad it is information to learn
