Very Good Counsel about the tape Tom!
One thing that I always try to do is to make sure that the tape is even on both sides! For me, it seems to help!!

Thanks. For me, it is all about the bevel. Pressing down on places where the bevel is weak will wear the tape and bevel at that point(using circles some) and make the bevel wider at that point. Smoothing out with honing for another look. The straighter and more even and smaller you can get the bevel, the better. Irregardless of what the wear on the tape looks like, the 3rd layer will become the workhorse! Some old dudes honed one side way heavier than the other!

I did what you suggested and took her for a stropping.
Showered and then made some later with AOS Sandlewood and some Gylserin.
NICE LATER, went on WARM!
Started the shave with NOT SO HIGH HOPES....
HOLY MOLEY! This this shaves G R E A T !
It is FRIGGIN' SHARP also! I got a lil careless and took a nice SLICE into my top lip trying one of those "clean up passes" OUCH!
