Default A Peculiar Puma - Wiener Schaberl

    Gents,
I scored this little fellow off ebay. It's a 4/8 razor and looks like a miniaturized version of a standard straight razor. I honed it this evening and it took a nice edge. Anyone know anything about this one?

The name on the razor "Wiener Schaberl" come up as well on other brands of razor, dont know if he was a grinder but some probably think he was important to put his name on their razor.

"wiener Schaberl" is not a name, it is German for shoulderless.
The actual translation is Viennese scraper, but from what I understand, that is equivalent to a shoulderless ground razor.

    Hi Martin,

Yes I noticed that too. Mr. Schaberl of Vienna?

Wow Birnando, thank you! Do you know whether this type of razor served a particular function? Detailing? moustache? etc..

I am not aware of any special reasons for the shoulderless design, other than pure aesthetics.
Quite a few of the makers have had models with that grind over the years.
There are some real beauties with that grind out there.

    Birnando,
I meant with regards to its size, it's quite a little razor.

I was just going to what google translate and the fact that Schaberl is a last name, but nevertheless interesting.

I had one from a different German Maker. It was also small and had the same shoulderless grind, but did not have the "l" on the end of Schaber. I assumed it meant small shaver!

    I rest my case.
