New Hart 7/8
This package arrived with yesterday's mail. Inside was a new Hart 7/8, Satin Finish, Square Point razor with Bocote scales. I have a 6/8 Hart, round point, polished, with cocobolo scales that I purchased over a year ago, and it's one of my best shavers. The scales on the 6/8 were a little rough, so I rounded and smoothed all the edges with sand paper and 00 steel wool, and finished them with True Oil, and the cocobolo scales now look very nice.
The Bocote scales on this 7/8 look great, so I may leave them as is. We'll see. Anyhow, going to give this razor a go later this morning to see what kind of edge Hart put on this hefty blade.
What's new, to me, is the packaging. Hart now ships their razors in a small wooden box.

Excellent choice. Hart builds a serious razor. I believe they started the straight storage box when they did their first special releases. Enjoy.

I bought the exact same razor last year - same size, finish, & scales. You have outstanding taste!
Mine (ground by TV) was shave ready out of the box and retains a perfect edge after fourteen shaves. It doesn't come up in rotation very often but I'm keeping track of it to see how long it can last without a touchup. I think most of us hit the stones because we want to rather than because we need to.

Thanked: 247I like those new boxes...the older larger boxes are on my shelf and won't get used. Those would probably see use in my den
Do they not come with a wrench and oil any more?

I stropped the razor this morning on an Illinios 827 (lots of draw), then on a SRD Premium I, and is shaved like a dream. Effortless ATG and it was silky smooth. My older Hart 6/8 shaves the same. Looks like it just needed a good stropping. I posted this morning's shave on the Shave of the Day formum. It's amazing what a good stopping session can do to an edge, it was like night and day.
