    Default First custom Micarta scales

Today I just finished up my first restore/rescale.

Its a Wade and Butcher 13/16 wedge I picked up from the bay. It had a chipped scale (forgot to take pics of scales) and a pretty heavy patina with some pitting. The before are the eBay pics.

    Before.

After I got it I took off the old scales and cleaned the blade a little bit. I decided to make a set of Micarta scale. It seemed easy enough. After finding out sanding them down by hand sucks I finally finished and coated with 6 coats of CA glue and brought them to a matte finish. The wedge is buffalo horn.

    Now for the beaut.

Gah... The pic of the tang is supposed to be in the before pics. Forgot to put it inline.

Oh no! Were the original scales cracked or something? Sad to see original scales of that era gone.

They had a chip by the pin. But I do still have them. I would never destroy something that old. I just merely replaced them so I don't damage them any worse.
