The Wrong Razor
An unusual show and tell. I purchased a Famex " Pour barbes dures" razor off ebay. The seller shipped the parcel from France and it arrived extremely quickly to Montreal.
I open the package today, and I was surprised to find a french frameback razor that is obviously the wrong razor.
I checked out the sellers recently sold items, and there it was, sold to another buyer for about 20$ more than what I paid for the Famex.
Framebacks have never interested me and I have never even handled one. But to my surprise, this specimen is quite nice and in good condition. The steel is in great shape and sits tight in its horn scales.
What is the usual way to proceed when receiving the wrong item? I presume the seller would have to cover the return shipping costs I would incur.
I have contacted the seller informing her of the situation. I must confess, I am quite tempted to hone it and see how it shaves. But alas, common sense dictates to leave it in the same exact condition, as I hope that whomever received my Famex razor does the same. Quelle affaire!

I don't know what you have invested in it, but the frameback you just posted is a nice one.
If the 3rd party is happy with the one he got, then I would just keep this one.
It was meant to find you.

Thanked: 580I like the look of the frame backs, they are definitely different to shave with, quite rigid. I would give it a go, you may be surprised.

Thanked: 247I would also assume the seller is responsible for shipping costs in this particular case. But your best bet will be to talk to Ebay and find out.

Thanked: 5I bought a small expensive tool once on eBay. the seller had 2 similar but different brands. I bought the second tier brand, the seller shipped me the better one. rather than pay shipping for both units two more times, he opted to refund the buyer of the other unit and I kept what I received. considering that the seller was selling them for more than he paid for them, he may still have been ahead.

Possession is nine tenths of the law. If you wanted to keep it France is a long way away. OTOH, the right thing to do would be to find out what the seller wants to do. He is absolutely responsible for the shipping from here on out. If it were me, and I wanted to keep the frameback, I would tell him that I would be willing to pay the $20.00 difference to save him the trouble/cost. That would leave it to him to work it out with the other buyer.

Well, it's been a week since I messaged the seller. I sent two messages, and no response. I honed the razor and it shaves like a dream. I can assume for the time being that the razor is now mine.

I would try to contact the seller one last time. It is possible that the buyer who was expecting this particular razor may have really wanted it. I think with 3 attempts to contact the seller without response my conscience would be clear to enjoy the frameback.
