Thanked: 3226They are pretty interesting alright and for that reason alone a likely must have. Bonus is that they shave well too. The hones are fragile, I think, and have seen quite a few with cracks. Treat the hone gently. Get her sharpened up and give her a whirl.

Make sure you return the handle to the proper position before closing!

Congrats on your find! Have fun with it - they are definitely a unique experience.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

You are very lucky to have a manual!
Also, do not hone or strop fast. I have seen too many of those hones chipped out where the blade changes direction. Two chipped lines across the hone.
One side of the case only fits one cover, they are keyed that way.
Assure the timing of the flip / flop is correct for the operation you are performing.
The blade holder can slip on its shaft and be in the wrong position. Its made that way. You can carefully move it to one end of the stroke while holding the blade and slip the blade to the surface of the hone or strop in the correct position at that end.
Have fun and take care! They are good shavers if properly maintained!

Wow, that's a nice Rolls! They are a neat collectible for us shaving geeks, and fun to shave with too. Show it off to your friends; you can bet most have never seen such a device!

Conga-rats on your new old Rolls.
Did you know there is a Rolls Razor club here?! I am a member and will vouch for you. Please send me the first years dues (a new Naniwa 12k superstone) and I'll try to get you signed up. Or: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...azor-fans.html
I am a recent fan of the Rolls - just got mine sharpened and serviceable. It is a real pip for a smooth shave on its own or, as I'm using it, for precise neck and jawline touch-ups after a 2nd pass with a straight. Heads up - do not lubricate the roller bushing that the blade rides on for stropping and honing."We'll talk, if you like. I'll tell you right out, I am a man who likes talking to a man who likes to talk."
