The software worked just about perfectly this time what with Jimmy operating it in manual mode.

Dimitry just confirmed for me that I am indeed the buyer of the razor.

All's well that ends well, as they say.

Thanks to Jimmy, and to all you other folks that work so hard on these complex issues, and take so much thought and care to make this place so comfortable and valuable for us duffers.

I bought a razor last month under those circumstances. The Buy It Now feature aborted and gave me a message something was wrong. Somewhere in the process, the seller's email address was revealed, and I went to PayPal and paid him. I then contacted the seller because the Buy It Now button remained. In this instance I was the first buyer because the seller emailed me back and said, "I'm glad you told me, I'll shut down the ad now."

Had I not been the first buyer I would have understood and accepted reimbursement. We are a community of friends and I would expect anybody who missed out on a sale under these circumstances to do likewise.

Gugi made an important point that this is not intended to be a storefront. I think the intent of the Classifieds is to find a new home for items that are no longer being used and to help the seller recoup part of his investment. It's kind of a letdown to me to have members selling and never fellowship with us on the forum. I like to buy from people I know.

Yeah, that's something that I have been looking to change for quite some time now, and we're getting closer to improving it.

There are multiple ways where the process of marking an ad as 'Sold' after a sale is complete can break down. This thread is the first time I'm hearing about it, but apparently it's not new. Can those of you who have had the issue PM me with the item where you had the problem? I want to narrow down the timeframe when this started to happen - it will help figuring out why it did and how to fix it.

The status change only occurs when the sale is complete, so it's always been possible that two or more buyers send a payment for the same item if they all initiate the process before the first one completes the sale. But those have been very rare events, and isn't what is happening here.

Just ruminations on my part,I think the majority of the sellers in Classifieds are members in good standing and contribute alot to the site, other than selling.
If your a member vendor, you have unlimited selling rights,If your a custom razor maker and post up your latest creation just for people to see, all those blades get sold via PMs.no rules Broken, nothing wrong with that.
If you have fallen on hard times such as I and several other members I talk with have, yes we use the classifieds to suppliment income,Is that wrong?
Back to members in good standing,Today I resin stabilized and bandsawed some whalebone for a Member,at no cost to him.
I have done the same numerous times for spalted woods for members,at no cost other than shipping.
I have sent out more DE blades to members than I can think of,OH, and shaving soap samples.
Members come up with an off the wall project? Hell ya,lets do it just for grins,my two cents.

Until recently, I was unemployed two years and didn't mean to be critical of members going through a similar situation if that is driving their level of participation.

I was under the impression that you could only post classified ads if you had a certain level of participation on the forums, which would prevent any bland marketing by opportunists.

Gugi, here is the link to my razor ad. It sold, and never got switched over, and then sold again (still not switched to sold) I changed it manually.

Hate to add fuel here but I sold Monty last week with the buyer using the Buy-It-Now feature and shortly afterward another member bought it as well. Had to disappoint the second buyer - I hate doing that. It's not a problem if you have some way to notify you immediately that gets your attention but I don't carry around my iPhone all day set to alert me when I get an email. The problem is that some aren't wired 24/7 like my teenagers. I may be a dinosaur with being wired up so I only check email once a day (if I have something listed) and about twice a week if I don't.

My suggestion - disable the Buy-It-Now feature (if the software give you that option) and revert back to emails to the seller until it's worked out. At least then as sellers we get the responsibility and opportunity to show it sold before someone else can jump in and buy. As buyers we can be sure it won't get pulled out from under us.

If the software won't allow you to disable the feature, just put something out telling everyone to not use it.
