I don't think we can either. I have tried to delete a few that I'll never post again with no success. Maybe some knowledgeable soul will come along and tell us how, if there is a way.

I've wondered this myself. Got a lot of clutter accumulating.

Removing it from photo manager removes it from the database.
If it were removed, someone viewing the thread a year from now would get the annoying red X.

I prefer to have it this way, vs. having old threads that become useless, because the pictures are gone.

Yes, the photos part of the thread, If they are lost, the thread is possibly useless. It is also handy to reuse them in the future as they are easy to retrieve!

that makes sense I thought the photo once it was attached would stay with the thread but if not I understand . thanks for the reply.

Think of it as a list of all the images that you have attached to posts. They aren't stored twice - once for you once for the posts, just once and are referenced from the post and from that list. The list also gives you the ability to attach it to another post at a later time without having to upload or store it again - it will just point to the original image (in reality not a very common thing, but still it's a possibility).

On a tangent, I used this feature a couple of weeks ago to find an image I remembered posting in a thread somewhere a few years ago, but couldn't find the thread via forum/google-searching. Pretty handy when one needs it
