Unedited
The 'Edit' feature of the Forums appears to have gone away. I admit I make a lot of mistakes, but is there there a reason for this?
X
Edit: ok, so I went in to edit this one and it works. Why does it appear for some and not for others?
Edit 2: An hour and a half later and I can still edit. That does seem like enough time to make changes so far, but sometimes I only notice my errors a few days later.Last edited by xman; 03-27-2007 at 11:48 PM.

It expires within minute(s) to avoid a repeat of what Bill did.

I've been asked to specify the reasons.. As most of you know, when Bill decided to leave the community, he went around editing all of his posts and removing any useful info from them. To avoid the unlikely repeat of such actions, edits have a time limit, which should be more than enough to catch the occasional error.
What we post here becomes property of the site, which exists for us to exchange information and introduce new people to the hobby. The time limit on edits helps ensure that it remains that way.

FYI - currently the time limit is set to 24-hours. One forum I belong to has it set to 2-minutes, btw... so 24-hours is a real luxury from one viewpoint.

I agree with you Joe. Unless I'm moderating (mostly catching typos and fixing them), I never edit posts after more than 2-3 minutes.
