My guess is that these "probes" to gain access to older accounts are being performed by a single person or small group using a service that masks the I.P. address of the user. These aren't very expensive and can be paid by the month.

I'm not sure, but U might be able to cross reference the malicious ip's with those used by these services. Obviously, a full and complete list probably won't be easily available.

Now, if only we could figure out their motive for trying to gain access to accounts for shaving nuts... I mean aficionados?
