No, not really - there's actually a theorem that there's never enough bans, at least that's what they taught me in mod school.

The advisors have access to all of the discussions that we have about running the forum, but they're not involved in executive way as the moderators. They only have soft power so they can offer different perspective. That's why we have Mike and Jimbo - even the most egomaniacal among us likes them enough to hear what they have to say.

I bring a hammer. I suppose that I can tap softly if that's what Jimbo regards as "considered way." I think they stopped at two because beyond that is a critical mass and they didn't know what would happen. Now that I think if this, they keep us on opposite ends of the planet too, hmmm.

I am the advisor for 1 doc, 4 master degree and a cluster of undergrads. My role is - mainly - to kick back the kids to their tracks on research when they derail. And they derail often! Boyfriends, Girlfriends, car wrecks, mama and papa fighting, alcohol, drugs, party, party, party, party, coffee shortage... everything can potentially derail a student. Hard to keep them inside the pen.

Advisor have a pretty different meaning here.
