    Default Uploading Photos

I have found that in SOTD, size matters. So I am trying to upload photos from a remote photo hosting site. I have tried Google photos and another one on a free trial. Both times I am getting a dialogue box that says something about file not being recognized...it is probably user error but I am sufficiently frustrated to ask how to do this. I tried the search box as I am sure I am not the first to ask this. No luck there.

I have no ideer, but perhaps a PM to Max or one of the SOTD participants who put on those fabulous pics would get some info?
BTW, you seem to put forth some beauts, IIRC.

The file name must end with .jpg or .JPG
If you just upload from your computer file that you keep them in, they should load fine. I like the free program Photoscape to resize and post process my photos.

I can do it all at home and then I have a record of what I did and can re-use them if I wish. I can tilt or un-tilt and do most anything with focus, sharpness, size, and light, &c. with it.

It would seem that a GOOD camera and the proper settings/editing software is key as well as becoming a camera geek. What diff would it be downloading from a bucket, or from your pics?

Some issues though around using a remote picture service and resizing photos IIRC is that if over time you remove your account from the site - the SOTDs end up with file not found blank images. Also, the larger sizes can cause the page to go out of alignment- at least that's what I remember reading here before...

File size and format are important. As Richard says you have to choose the correct format though I think that there are more than 2 options

That is correct. You have to leave them where you uploaded.

I use Photobucket which works for me. I am sure other site's like Richard's Photoscape work well.

    Thanks gents
I am piloting an IMAC and there are some limitations to that OS, one of which is that it is not supported by Photoscape, well, without some wrangling. I do have a pretty good camera now and I am interested in refining my SOTD posts a little. It is a fun process albeit a source of frustration at times...about every time I try. Still, the fun factor is greater than the frustration factor. I have seen the missing photos on older posts and the ginormous photos which are slightly IMO, too big. I'm just aiming for a little more information in the pic. Both Geezer's and rolodave's pics seem optimum in this aspect.

Other than crop I do nothing to the pics. IIRC, the pics in SOTD are automatically sized so you do not have to worry about that aspect.

Not sure if you put a very small pic up. Will try it.
