I don't see this, sorry Ron.
I read all his posts, that he made. I could take issue with each one of the posts he made. In that alone, I did not see a genuine interest to learn. It's possible that he never visited a forum before,,, even so, I think he could have followed the path set down by the Administration for new members, he choose not to.
Lots of members join each day, very few, percentage wise, get banned in their first 6 posts.
No one forced him to respond with a F&*# off to a Moderator.
I'm with you 95% of the time Ron, your valuable technical expertise in this lifestyle of wetshaving speaks for itself.
I just can't ride with you on this one.

Thanked: 2209I am late to this thread, sorry.
I think we could have done a better job in the initial responses. A link to the "local help" and the "advanced member search screen"
would have been more helpful.
Directing him to the "Settings" at the top right of the page so that he could modify his profile to include his location would be more helpful than just telling him to put his location in his profile. Finding that profile is, at first, a real hunt.
Finally, we did lose something, our reputation went down a notch. Maybe that's why on FB I have been reading comments where SRP is regarded as elitist in attitude.
Let watch how we treat new guys. Sarcasm is not a useful teaching tool.

There are a couple of things I'd like to say to your post Randy,,, I respect you & the hard work that you put into the straight razor way of life.
I've never had any issues with you & I sure as heck will not allow "1" new member, who told a Moderator to F off, set the image for SRP,,,,,, I don't Facebook Randy, so I don't know what they are saying about SRP,,,, I don't belong to another forum or BLOG about razors,
But,,,,,
One thing I do know a heck of a lot about is people and the methods they use to express themselves. Any one who has issues with SRP or any other interest in their life; should take their issues to the source and lay it on the table. Any man who has to third party his issues for comfort & self recognition, lacks a set of balls, as far as I'm concerned.
Just my 2 cents

Randy, you make excellent points! +1 here. Did the OP deserve to get banned? Absolutley. No argument there. At the same time we are responsible for our own actions. Randy makes some specific and helpful suggestions.

Wow super late to the party but I would have been pretty pissed too if I got roasted like that on my first post. You guys... I hope he finds solace somewhere. Life's to short to leave a place angrily. I speak from experience on that one.

As far as I can tell, the original poster received several quick and rather helpful responses to his inquiry.
This is not a free help desk, but a community, which means several things including
1) people have real relationships and, like in real life, can have side conversations, digress from a topic, or talk to each other in shorthand, jargon, inside jokes etc.
2) when an answer is not very precise, it's very simple to ask a follow up question for clarification
3) nobody is perfect, that is why participating in any community requires some basic social skills
Yes, the observation in post #26 was valid, yet lacked the normal decorum. Some of those who took an issue with this have made the same posts in the not so distant past themselves, so clearly one comment by one individual does not reflect on the whole community. On the contrary - while we make mistakes, we can also learn from them.
The other rude comment, was apparently made by mistake, as the poster was confused which thread he was responding to, and was retracted.
I don't see what the big deal is. If anybody, it was the new member who showed a complete lack of civility - he butted with profanities into a side conversation between two members.
As far as I am concerned there is no loss whatsoever to our community - there is a minimum standard for behavior and anybody who does not meet it does not belong here. We never had any desire to be 4chan or reddit.
Like Randy, I am familiar with the narrative that some have been trying to push for quite some time that SRP is a sort of an elitist place. I know the backstory of many of those people, their dishonesty, and machinations. Some of them are not on SRP for very good reasons, but our policy has always been to take the high road and not air people's dirty laundry.
