Thread: Photo Hosting Sites

I wanted to post my pics in a larger size and decided on Photobucket for a host. They 'give' you some free space, along with a blizzard of advertising including pop ups. Then you must pay. Seems fair enough. Today I set about cleaning out Downloads and Photos on my computer and went to Photobucket to make some space there also. Yep, I deleted a bunch and they disappeared from SRP at the same moment. I was warned off the hosting sites because of this but I didn't think of it when I made room for more photos.
It's not that my pics are an integral part of the forum but I feel stupid and a little ashamed that I trashed up the site with what amounts to an obscene ad for Photobucket where there was once a photo.
Back to the small size. Sorry gents.

You could post small photos on SRP and include in the post a link to a hosted photo album of the larger versions.

You can save photos to your own computer hard drive,, then SRP will upload them to the thread,,, these are actually rather large size. If your photo exceeds 1 meg,,, then reduce it on your computer by having the reduced size photos "saved as" in a temp file until SRP uploads them,,, then you can purge the temp file & still have the full size on your hard drive.

If you still want to "link" consider joining GOOGLE DRIVE,, it free up to a certain amount of storage,,, I have not complaints with GOOGLE Drive as a backup drive.

If you use Google to store your photos with a size adequate for sharing them online (eg here), you get free, unlimited storage. I don't think the size of the images hosted here is small. It's 700px x 700 px and it fits reasonably well with the forum layout on most people's desktops.
When inlining images from external source they still either get reduced to fit the layout by one's browser, they get cropped by the layout boundaries, or sometimes they mess the layout (it depends on the browser and on the particular vbulletin bugs at the time).

Of course, if you have large monitor with big resolution and extend your browser to use a lot of the space you may see big inlined pictures in their full size, but that is not what 80%-90% of the forum members see at all.

I consider myself fairly competent, so more often than not things are set up in a way that produces the best results. If they are not, I'm always more than happy to improve them.

I think some SOTD pics are too large and in contrast the default size uploaded by my computer looks smallish. I went to a photo hosting site to get a leetle bigger. I'm trying to fix things so I can upload a 1 MB intact which someone has suggested is the proper size. I can export close to a 1 MB pic but it shows up when I upload to the site as larger....frustrating but not entirely. I kind of welcome the challenge. I see several sizes on the SOTD. I'm looking for the mid-range uploaded from my Mac. Ain't there yet.
