    Default Honing videos

Hi guys, it was mentioned somewhere that there are some good honing videos on this site. I've watched a lot of the you tube stuff but I'm trying to find anything on honing with a BBW. I'm not a total newb but I will be on the BBW when it arrives next week. Thanks, j

Is it just a BBW, or is there a coticule involved too?

I found it very helpful to use only one persons videos when first learning. There are many paths to the effect edge, but you cannot follow them all at the same time. I used gssixguns videos for a variety of reasons. I think that as long as the person presenting the material is competent it is all about you finding someone you like their presentation.

Start your searching here,,, so of the pages may need time to load,,, I'll look over the section later to see if the pages need work.

Jonjo would you like any advice or help with that BBW or are you just looking for videos?

Thanks Utopian, yes maybe…and thanks everyone else for the pointers. I haven't had time to look at any vids yet and I had previously tried to find gssixguns vids but not found them? Anyway guys the BBW just arrived. It's an Ardennes coticule brand and it looks like it needs a fair bit of lapping. At least on one side before I put my blade to it. I'm going to use a naniwa 220 flattening stone on it to see how that comes up first. Failing that, sandpaper etc. I also have a BBW (yellow) slurry stone with which to start the honing and then dilute…as I've read about on several different sites. I'll let you know the results when I've had a go later. Any tips in between would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, J

I have never used the Naniwa flattening hone but I would assume that it was not designed for natural hones. Use a straight edge to check for any dishing in it. If you find any then you will need to use sandpaper or loose grit to lap your lapper.

BBWs in general have larger garnets but fewer of them so they tend to be much slower and produce a less refined edge, so you may have a challenge ahead of you!
