AFAIK in a PM it has always been from a URL only. At least as long as I have been around SRP.

The easiest I have found to add images in a PM is to use postimage. Upload your image and then use the 'direct link' url. In your PM or Forum Text box click on the 'insert image'
icon and paste the direct link into it. Voila. Your pic will show in your PM or even forum post.

you can also put pics in a PM if they were attached to a forum post.
Each attachment has a number, so if you copy paste the 'attach' block of the forum post into your PM, you get the same effect.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

If you use photobucket use the bottom link to attach a picture to a post or pm. That's what I do
