Default How about a list of Honing Services?

Given there's a bunch of users that DON'T have the time or want to hone, why isn't there a list under "Member Services" ?

Because it costs $50 per year to advertise in Member Services.

As someone who owns a business, I'm sorry, but I think that's being penny wise and dollar foolish.

I don't know if you are referring to the site or the honers. As someone who never made more than a couple dozen dollars a year on honing referrals from here, the $50 investment just doesn't make sense. So it seems to me that no matter who is being "foolish" in this case, what used to be a couple of pages of listings is now an empty promise.

My apologies, I'm new to the site and shouldn't have made assumptions.

I did indeed make my comment referring to the honers not wanting to pony up what I would have THOUGHT would have been cheap advertising while assuming it was a more profitable proposition.

I honestly would have thought the truly practiced honers would have done better than a few dozen dollars from the non-honers on the site.

Again,my apologies if this isn't the case.

Ironically, there are quite a few members here that will hone a razor for pretty much free. Usually paying the cost of return postage is all that is asked. Once upon a time there was a certain well known and respected vendor who would hone your razor FOR FREE AND PAY THE RETURN SHIPPING COST!!!
All he asked was no junk Chinese or Pakistan blades. People would not honor that request; he quit the gratis honing eventually. Can't blame him.

I don't know what the reasons are behind the absence of the honing services list that we had last year & before.

    But ,,,,

I do know that time has nothing to do with honing your own razor. When a razor in my rotations starts to pull a little, it takes less than 12 minutes to bring the edge back on a finisher & strop it. The razor is good for another 3 or 4 months. You can get a finisher for as little as $45.00 that will last you a lifetime.

Not wanting to hone your own razors, well that's a valid reason. Some just don't want to bother with it & have come to enjoy the edges that they get from members who hone for them.

Unless you're a big name, it's hard to charge more than $20 per razor - and that has to cover return postage to the customer as well as insurance. It's a nickel and dime game that most of us do just for the enjoyment of doing it. I can assure you that I will never live long enough to pay for my Japanese natural stones and Belgian coticules with honing work, even if I was doing it 40 hours a week.

With the old system, there was no charge for posting in the Classifieds, and this included the Member Services area. The only requirements were a certain minimum post count and a probationary period on the site to prevent hit and run sellers. When it was free, there were a couple of pages of members offering honing and various degrees of restoration services. Now, it's pretty much by word of mouth.

Well, this is too bad. Id think for just honing service the forum could come up with a list of guys and post it. Not that id want on the list. But new folks could pick someone close to them for this service. Maybe take the names of folks willing to do this service in PM for a couple weeks then put up a closed list.
    JMHO.

Just a list of forum names and state they are in. It would be up to to person wanting the service to pm anx go from there. You would need to state that the forum takes no responcability and the folks on the list would need to be solid members here. Not some new guy looking to make some money. Min amount of posts and pass some kind of past post scrutany.

The Members Services "Cost" is not the issue

The issue is that the implementation of that section stalled after Bruno and I worked out the B/S/T

I will talk with him and John later this week and we will iron out the Details and Rules

Implementing a section and fee is easy peasy the issue is always the Rules,
