Yeah, I don't think it's possible to delete a thread if not a moderator, only one's individual posts for a limited time.
Also the permissions in the b/s/t forum are a bit different and the original poster is able to close the threads they started, but that is special for that section only. In the rest of the forum a thread is a discussion and once started is more of a shared communal property of all participants so it doesn't seem fair to give the original poster the power to end it by force.
Of course, the moderators are always available to close or delete a thread if necessary - mistakes are part of life and it's really not a big deal

Thank You for clarifying, Ivan. It seems moderators can also move a thread to the proper subforum as well?

Yep, the moderators can perform all actions on threads too - delete/move/merge/split/copy/etc. The only territory that requires administrator permissions is modifying the forum sections themselves or configuration of the software itself.

All permissions are configurable. For general purposes, it is set up so that once a discussion is started, it runs as long as people think the subject is interesting enough to talk about. If the original poster would close it for whatever reason, others would need to start a new thread to continue the discussion and that would be messy and annoying.
The BST is a different matter. There it was decided to give people the ability to close their own threads, because they decide whether something is still for sale or not (the item is retracted or sold). And by allowing people to close their sale threads, we don't get the situation where people keep saying 'nice score' etc. That would continuously bump sold items to the first page, swamp actual available items to next pages, and make it difficult to see from the outside whether an item is sold or not.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
