The recent outage...
Hello everyone,
First, I'm glad to be finally back online!
The other day we experienced a corruption of the database. In principle not that big of a deal - things like this happen it's part of life and that's why we have built redundancies. The fastest and easiest way in such situations is to just recover from the latest backup.
Unfortunately the backup restore process at the hosting company turned out to be broken and it took day and a half before we could recover the data and could be back online.
Needless to say this is not acceptable and we will be building up again our infrastructure so that we don't have to experience such outages again, as well as re-implementing a finer grained backups. In particular our top priority is finding the resources to start again the off-site backups which we had to give up few years ago.
Anyways, I appreciate your patience and understanding through this ordeal.
And now we're back to enjoying the community!

Ah, sorry, forgot to note this. Basically the forum activity since the latest backup from which we restored is not here. That's about the latest 19hours worth of it before we went dark. In principle it's recoverable, but I don't have much expertise in this and these services tend to be on the expensive side, starting around $5k.
Our current backups are daily, so that we can loose at most a day's worth of data and in this case we did close to that
With the additional backup system that we want to reimplement we can go back to doing it much more frequently and if something terrible happens we could lose almost nothing.

Shit happens! Now you know what's missing in your process and are taking steps to ensure a more reliable platform back up. Sometimes it takes these kind of SNAFU's to keep us from becoming complacent.
You did well in bring us back up!Semper Fi !
